The color palette prompt generator gives you two things at once: a five-color palette based on real color theory, and a drawing prompt to use it on. Tap any swatch to copy its hex code into Procreate, Photoshop or any art app. It’s the fastest way to practice color with a clear goal.

How the color palettes are made
Each palette starts from a random base hue and follows a classic color harmony:
- Analogous – neighbouring colors that feel calm and natural.
- Complementary – opposite colors that create strong contrast and energy.
- Triadic – three evenly spaced hues for a playful, balanced look.
- Split-complementary – a softer version of complementary contrast.
- Monochrome – one hue in five values, perfect for practising light and shadow.

Why practice with a limited palette
Beginners often use every color in the box and end up with muddy or noisy pictures. A limited palette forces you to think about value (light and dark) and temperature (warm and cool) instead. Many professional illustrators work with just a handful of colors for exactly this reason.
Color practice ideas
- Value first. Take the monochrome palette and paint the prompt using only those five values.
- Same prompt, three palettes. Keep one prompt and paint it with analogous, complementary and triadic palettes. Notice how the mood changes.
- 60-30-10 rule. Use one color for 60% of the image, a second for 30% and an accent for 10%.
- Palette swatch page. Fill a sketchbook page with swatches from ten generated palettes and note which you like.

Frequently asked questions
What are color harmonies?
Color harmonies are combinations based on the color wheel. Analogous colors sit next to each other, complementary colors are opposite, triadic colors are evenly spaced, and monochrome uses one hue in different lightness.
How do I copy a color?
Tap or click any swatch to copy its hex code. Use “Copy palette + prompt” to copy all five colors and the prompt together.
Can I use the palettes in Procreate or Photoshop?
Yes. Copy the hex codes and paste them into the color picker of Procreate, Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint or any other app.
Do I have to use only these five colors?
For practice, try to. A limited palette is one of the fastest ways to make your artwork look harmonious. You can always add black or white.
